Designing Spaces: When Your Floorplan Leaves Less Than To Be Desired

If you've been reading my blog for more than a minute, you know I'm passionate about Jesus and cooking! Today I'm going to introduce you to my third favorite hobby...DECORATING!

I'm not a DIYer. I like to buy cute, functional, and quality pieces that someone else made! I love supporting all of my DIY friends' ambitions and I love shopping for pieces locally made. But this girl ain't got the time or patience to try and make it herself!

Like most women, I love a good bargain. With that being said, buying high quality pieces that are going to last is a better use of your money than buying something that will need replacing frequently.

We live in a cookie cutter house. My husband built it before we got married (even knew each other) so I didn't have a say in the design. Most of the houses on our street are one of four floor plans. Nothing unique, nothing exciting. Because of that, I'm motivated to make my house a home. A livable home. A functional home.

I don't want to live in a museum. We have little kids who ruin everything. Legit. How do people so small do so much damage? As I type this my 1 year old is pulling ALL the blankets off my recently straightened blanket ladder. Oy vey!

Anyway...when we moved back into our house (read that story here) I wanted our home to be more functional for our lifestyle (aka suitable for little rugrats). I wanted our home to be an extension of our hearts, cozy and inviting.

Our living room is a box with awkward wall space. The TV outlet is in the corner of a wall that has a large window smack dab in the middle. Pure torture from a design perspective. It took me a while to figure out the best way to situate furniture so that every spot on the couch had a decent angle to the TV (because, priorities) leaving a wide enough path from the kitchen through the living room to our stairs.

I settled on this design and I must say, I love the way it turned out! The couch acts as a nice segue from our kitchen/dining area to the living room.

Our living room doesn't feel crowded with furniture (another important factor when decorating). I chose an over sized ottoman that I found on Wayfair in lieu of a coffee table. Table corners and babies learning to walk aren't always the best combination!

And as you can see, it is perfectly suitable for destructive toddlers and rowdy big kids. If you want to check out these items for purchase yourself, the links are below. I'm not compensated in any way- just like sharing a good find!

Blessings,

Anna
