How To Add Farmhouse Charm in a Cookie Cutter House

Well, today is Valentine's Day. I was trying to draft some sweet, sentimental post about love, family, and Jesus but I'm in the middle of a bathroom remodel and it's all I can seem to think about. Real life, y'all. My brain can only process so much at one time. Thanks, kids.
I'm not sure if it's this marvelous non-winter weather here in Kentucky or my love for home decor, but I have been in hard core design/remodel mode. I'm just about finished with the kid's bathroom (can't wait to post those pictures!) and I'm already planning the next room to do! Watch out hunny bunny, mama's on a roll!
I've mentioned before that we live in a very cookie cutter house. It's a great starter house for us! We have plenty of living space, ample bedrooms, and enough "growing room" for our family. The only downside is our house lacks any semblance of character.
I'm big on originality. I don't like everything in my house to look exactly like my neighbors' or friends' homes. I like to find one of a kind pieces, handmade items and furniture, or antiques and use them in a way that showcases their uniqueness. I always prefer little shops to big retailers but that isn't always achievable since we live in a small town (remember, I'm an Atlanta girl).
One of my design dilemmas was a main focal point in our main living area. We had this blank space in between the window (back door) in our eat-in kitchen and our living room window. I knew I didn't want a coffee bar since a.) the kitchen is 10 feet away, b.) we aren't huge coffee drinkers, and c.) my children would pull everything off of it. This area is probably the first thing people notice when they walk in our front door so it was important for me to make it functional but charming.
I love the way the space turned out! I have a functional console table {that I scored for FREE from Wayfair last year} where I can store extra pictures, candles, tablecloths, napkins, etc.
Bonus, each little item has a special significance to me...

My mom gave me the sign above the basket so I'm able to have a sweet memory of her whenever I walk past here. I bought the mason jar centerpiece from a friend of mine when she first started her business. (She has a shop on Etsy now if you want one!) And the candlesticks are from our wedding! All the feels here, y'all!

Try hanging baskets on the wall instead of canvas art or pallet signs for a rustic look!

If you see printables you like on Pinterest, save/print them and frame them for easy and personalized art!

Hide the Kleenex box with a cute cover! This one is double sided!

Little pieces like this make all the difference in bringing your entire space together!
No matter what your style or budget, decorating is about bringing memories to life inside your home. Find things that fit your personality and let them serve as vessels to take you back to happy times in your life!
Blessings,
Anna
